Relax and fly

Created in 2000, the Hang (pronounced "hung") is one of the younger musical instruments. It comes from Bern, Switzerland, and was created by Felix Rohner and Sabina Schärer OF THE PANArt Company. It was the result of many years of research on the steel pan and many other resonating percussion instruments from around the world: Gong, Gamelan, Ghatam, drums, cowbells, MUSICAL Saw...
There are many Hang models with various MODES proposed by PANArt. However, since each Hang is tuned individually, you are encouraged - if so inspired - to design your own "tone circle". Thus you participate in the creation of an instrument that best meets your own creative needs. The PANArt firm through its various regional representatives can help you in this project.
In the Bernese language, Hang refers to the human hand, as in "hand-drum." This percussion instrument is comprised of two metal hemispheres bonded together: the DING side and the GU side. The DING side CONTAINS 8 tone fields which together form the "tone circle" (scale or mode). This circle surrounds a central dome, called the DING (which sounds like a Gong). On the GU side, there is a hand size hole (called the GU) for sound resonance. The GU can be played like an udu, or used to modulate the sound of the DING.
There are many ways to invite the Hang to sound: with fingertips, thumbs, and the heel of the palm - and a mix of all three. Most of the time, the Hang sits on the player's knees, but you also could play it on a drum stand. Players can let their hands and their feelings discover how to play. Indeed, there are no rules for playing except one: the joy of music!
The Hang makes friends quickly. In my experience, people remember it as a fantastic instrument with a fabulous tone from the first time they encounter it, and musicians are intrigued by it as soon as they touch it. The Hang is on its way to centre stage.

Miles Kessler Sensei in Torino 2008

Posted on Oct 15th, 2008 by didjeridoopz : Gaia Child didjeridoopz

This last week end my Aikido Group and me were in Torino for the our 10 seminar with M. Miles Kessler.
It was a very nice and interesting practise. I've seen a very interesting work to do on myself to grow up with my tecnich and my mind.......and my shoulder :-))

We started with a lots of Ukemi practise where uke must fall and be very quite and relaxated.

Exercises that apparently seem much simple and lacking but that in reality they are truly many profits in order to prepare our body for ukemi.
Every year sensei proposes us this type of exercises and every year personally I understand my difficult to move myself. I find difficulty to make to accustom my body to apparently simple movements but that my brain finds truly complex.

We have tried also equilibrium exercises. In  Ken No Kamae position where uke pushed with force on the back and the belly with the intention to move us away. I have found perhaps simpler when uke pushed in front of me and more difficult when it pushed behind. .when pushed in front of me I heard that myself was planted in earth. This job in order to search our center and in order to be planted in earth.

We have continued with others interesting exercises in preparation to  Ken Jiyuwaza. We have tried the Matrix practise moving our body to the slow-motion and moving away  us from the attacks own like in celebre the film. It's funny but is not so easy to practise..
Then we have arrived to the real Ken Jiyuwaza. Uke attacks with free attacks of Ken Tori who must adorn himself and avoid makes himself to cut using a good MA AI and a good time. Before with Shomen and Yokomen then also with Tsuki. When we have taken some mastery with the practise we have begun also to adorn and to attack directly practicing l' exercise once to head.

We are passed then to TaiJutsu practice with techniques like Katate Dori Shihonage arriving then to secret Kaeshi Waza that have created me not little problems with my practical one. :-))
The day after we have still practiced ukemi exercises and Ken.It's always beatifull to meet Miles Kessler newly because every year we have always very many to learn from him and from its practical one. Council to many persons to practice to his seminars. They are truly an optimal experience. Therefore....to the next seminary! Keep practice!!!!
